I will be in London on the 21st of May. I know it's a long way off yet but I thought I'd give advance warning in case anyone wants to meet up and say hi.

That is all. :)

Most of it is straight forward, but I'd like some help with the treaty article number for the UK/US tax treaty and help with sex 6 of the W-7 tax form.

Any other help would be very awesome indeed. :)

For my final year project I'm going to be making an email client for use with Googlemail. It will be very useful and more than a bit awesome. In order to make this as good as possible, I'd like some help.

What features would you want to see in an email client?

So far, I have the fo,lowing:
  • basic email functionality (sending, receiving, automatic checking, writing)
  • minimising to an icon try icon
  • multiple accounts
  • alerts when new emails are received
  • options to download all email or download them when read

I have a new begging button as I need money, lots of money. Mostly so I can get hair removal with Sk:n, but also so I can buy food and Uni books.

So, uh, yeah. That's it.

Every single day I have to go through what is effectively torture, and for what? An hour or two of lectures, maybe a society meet, maybe food shopping. I just can't take it any more.

I'm having some problems with PHP. I'm writing a calender website and the problem I'm having is with the appointment making page. What I want it to do is query a database of appointments using a given date, if there's no appointment at that time I want it to echo the time as an option in a list, but if there is an appointment then I don't want the time to be listed as an option. So basically I want the option list to list only times when there isn't an appointment.

Another option is to have the calender so that I just click on the date to get the day view and then the time to create the appointment, but that'd also require a database query to find out when there isn't an appointment.

I can get it to display appointment details just fine, but finding out when there isn't an appointment is what I'm having problems with.

If anyone has any suggestions that might help, and maybe some sample code that I could use, that'd be great.

Edit: I'm using a MySQL database to store the appointment information.

Does anyone have a broken light gun I can have? I'm looking for something I can use to make a Star Wars blaster from, so a broken light gun would be good, I'd prefer not to have a working one as I'd be doing all sorts of things to it and it'll never work again.

If no one has one, does anyone know where they can get one and pass it on to me?

I'll pay full postage and other costs.

Thanks.

I'm hopefully going to finish Dracula tonight, I've been ill so I've been reading it and I'm near the end. I'm loving it. Problem is, I don't know what to read next. Due to me having more books than LJ polls can handle in a single question, here's a ticky poll. So, pick a book or two that I should read next.

Does anyone have an old tv card they don't want? I'd like one to use my playstation with, I have a load of games that won't get much if I sell them and I'd really like to play FFVIII to the end. I have tried using it with my freeview one but it didn't work, so it'd need to be one that doesn't do freeview. Anyone?

I've been epilating a while now and I've noticed that the hairs are growing back thinner than they were, which is good. Anothing thing I've noticed is that my legs still feel stubbley after I've epilated. I tried epilating every day to see if that'd help but it didn't. They looked smooth so it's not too bad, but I was wondering if anyone else had this or knew why this was?

I have problems with my knees, elbows and shoulders, they're kinda knobbley and I can't seem to be able to do them easily. Has anyone got any tips on making it easier to do these areas?

Another thing is underarms. Is it a good idea to epilate there as well? I tried shaving but it really hurt when I put deoderant on for the next few days and shaving is just a hastle.

Lastly, my epilator is kinda noisey, any ideas how I can make it quieter? It's not too bad so I can live with it, but I do worry about whether people can hear it or not.

The main thing I'm having problems with is actually connecting to a server, it doesn't seem to say how to do this. For example, I want to connect to irc.example.org on port 6667, how do I do it?

Does anyone know how to do this? Can anyone help in any way at all?

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop that I can take to lectures and things. My current one is good but it's too big for me and it's battery doesn't last long enough for a full days use. The one I want is very small and should last all day, but it's £850. This means I'll probably have to sell my current laptop, and maybe my desktops as well. I'm getting a new desktop so I won't need this one and the one at home isn't doing anything. I'm tempted to keep the desktop here as I can keep all my uni work and play stuff seperate though.

My laptop is: 2.8GHz P4, 512MB RAM, 64MB onboard graphics, built in wireless, LAN and modem, 30GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW drive, two USB2 ports, PCMCIA, stereo sound, 15.4" screen, s-video out, printer and monitor connections. Was £1000, best offers?

My desktop is: AMD XP 2700+, 1.5GB RAM, 256MB GeForce FX5500, LAN, lots of USB2 ports, 60GB hard drive, DVD+/-RW/RAM drive, CD drive, floppy, onboard sound, no monitor but can provide mouse and keyboard. I don't know how much it cost, best offers?

Also, this box: 2GHz P4, 256MB RAM, 32MB GeForce 2 MX400, onboard sound, 10GB hard drive, 3GB hard drive, CD-R, CD, LAN, 2 USB2 ports. Best offer?

They'll have to be collected from portsmouth as shipping might cost a bit.

I really hate selling computers. :(

I've just built a UNIX box and have installed FreeBSD 6.1 onto it. It all went well, I had a bit of trouble configuring X as I'd never done it before but it works. I then tried to run KDE and hit a few problems. I've used KDE and know how it should work, the only problem is that it doesn't work. The desktop and the bar and everything I open are in windows with a button in the top left the turns it into a small bit and one in the top right to resize it. When I open a program it appears as an outline and doesn't appear until I've clicked where I want it to be. I found a screenshot grabber thing so I could post a picture of what it looks like but I can't configure my internet connection so it's useless.

I tried installing Gnome but I don't know how to start it so I can't use that.

Any ideas as to what's wrong and how to fix it, or what I do to start gnome?

I had some other things I forgot to say.

I was told my T levels are below normal, so I'm having another blood test. I could've had it there but if it came out low I'd have to have another one at 9 so I might as well have this one at 9, the earliest this can be done is the 21st.

I also have some stuff for my hair to stop it going frizzy. Not sure how well it'll work.

My dad got me Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. I look forward to reading it as I enjoyed reading Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.

I'm selling my playstation and most of my games. If anyone wants anything just say and I'll put it on ebay. It'll be done as auctions so that if people see the stuff and they want it the price will go up, which is good for me as I need the money. If you could suggest a start price for the items, that'd be great.

The Playstation:
  • The console itself

  • power cable

  • two analogue rumble controllers, one PS1 the other PS2 (it's black and has a longer cable)

  • three memmory cards

  • RF ariel cable

  • scart cable

Light Gun:
  • P99K light blaster

  • recoil and moving slider

  • reload pedal

  • box and instructions

  • will come with the following games:
  • Time Crisis

  • Die Hard Trilogy

  • Die Hard Trilogy 2

The games:
  • Resident Evil

  • Soul Blade

  • Gran Turismo 2

  • Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

  • Army Men: Omega Soldier

  • Hot Wheels Turbo Racing

  • Final Fantasy VIII

  • Medal of Honour

  • GTA and GTA: London (no box for GTA, just GTA: London)

  • Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2

  • Street Skater 2

  • GTA 2

  • No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking

  • Future Cop: LAPD

  • Tomorow Never Dies

  • G-Police

  • Alien Resurrection

  • Fear Effect 2

  • Equaliser Xtreme Cheat Disk

If you want anything on this list, please leave a comment and I will start the auction on tuesday. I will do auctions after tuesday but I'd rather do it on tuesday as it's 5p listing day. They will be auctions so they might end up more expensive than what you want to pay for them, but right now I really need the money so it'll be helping me out a lot.

One thing I forgot to say was that I got my second box back up and running. It used to dual boot win98 and ubuntu, but I took out the ubuntu hdd and now it won't boot. The only way I can fix this is to reinstall windows, only I don't have any version of windows. Does anyone have any version of windows that I can have? It doesn't really matter which, though preferably win98 or better.

Also, does anyone have a spare HDD I can have? It doesn't have to be big, maybe a few gigs would do.

Thanks.
